One Side Is a Turf Ramp. The Other Is a Grip Climbing Wall. Both Build Confidence from the Ground Up..

Description

Most toddler climbers are either lightweight plastic sets for backyards or large indoor Pikler-style birch structures that cannot go outside. The ONP Mini-Climber occupies a different space. It is built from Western Red Cedar that lives outdoors year-round without treatment, weighs approximately 60 lb so it stays put during active use, and offers two completely different climbing surfaces on one compact, double-sided frame.

One side has a soft turf ramp - a gentle, low-friction incline that toddlers can crawl up and scramble down, that invites the kind of repeated, self-paced movement challenge that builds whole-body coordination and vestibular confidence. The other side has a cedar climbing wall with child-sized hand and foot grips securely fastened into the frame - a vertical challenge that requires a toddler to plan their movements, reach, grip, step, and haul themselves upward, developing the motor planning, upper body strength, core stability, and bilateral coordination that structured climbing uniquely provides. Both surfaces, one unit, for children across Canada and the US who need exactly this kind of physical challenge.

Key Features of the ONP Mini-Climber

  • Dual-Surface Design - Turf Ramp and Grip Climbing Wall - One side features a soft turf ramp for crawling, walking up, and scrambling down at a manageable incline; the other features a climbing wall with child-sized hand and foot grips for reaching, pulling, and stepping upward - two entirely different motor challenges in one compact outdoor frame
  • Child-Sized Hand and Foot Grips Securely Fastened - The grips on the climbing wall side are scaled for toddler hands and feet, positioned to allow successful climbing with genuine effort, and fastened securely to the cedar frame; they create a real, achievable challenge rather than a decorative surface
  • Western Red Cedar Construction - Cedar requires no staining, resists rot and insects naturally, stays comfortable to touch in summer heat, and lasts 15 to 20 years outdoors; the same material standard applied across the full ONP outdoor range and a genuine distinction from every plastic or birch competitor
  • Compact - Indoor or Outdoor Use - Sized for placement in a classroom corner, therapy room, covered outdoor area, or open backyard without requiring a dedicated play zone; approximately 60 lb means it stays stable during active climbing while remaining movable for adults reconfiguring a space
  • Suitable for Toddlers and Preschool-Aged Children - Proportioned and challenging for children learning to crawl, climb, and develop physical confidence from toddler through preschool age; scaled to be genuinely challenging without being inaccessible
  • All-Weather Outdoor Durability - Western Red Cedar construction means this climber can remain outdoors in rain, sun, and freezing temperatures without warping, cracking, or requiring seasonal storage; purpose-built for outdoor learning spaces that cannot bring equipment inside daily
  • Approximately 60 lb - Stable and Substantial - Heavy enough to remain stable during the lateral and downward forces of active toddler climbing; substantial enough to anchor an outdoor gross motor zone as a permanent fixture

Note: Accessories shown in product images are not included.

Skills Developed Through ONP Mini-Climber Play

  • Gross Motor Strength & Whole-Body Coordination - Climbing, crawling, stepping, and pulling across both surfaces develops the whole-body strength and coordination that early years physical development programmes prioritise - not just lower body strength, but core stability, shoulder girdle strength, and arm-leg integration
  • Motor Planning & Spatial Reasoning - Assessing how to approach each surface, sequencing hand and foot placements, and adjusting mid-climb develops the motor planning and spatial reasoning that underpin coordination, academic readiness, and everyday physical competence
  • Vestibular & Proprioceptive Integration - The ramp and the climbing wall each deliver distinct vestibular and proprioceptive input - the ramp through incline movement and balance, the wall through the resistance of grips and the effort of pulling - supporting sensory integration for all children including those who benefit from structured movement-based sensory input
  • Upper Body Strength & Bilateral Coordination - The grip climbing wall specifically develops the shoulder girdle strength, arm strength, and bilateral coordination that OTs identify as precursors to fine motor skill, handwriting readiness, and daily living skills
  • Risk Assessment & Physical Confidence - Successfully climbing a surface that requires genuine effort builds the self-efficacy, risk tolerance, and physical confidence that children carry from outdoor play into every domain of learning and social life
  • Independence & Perseverance - Approaching, attempting, and completing a physical challenge independently - without adult assistance - develops the persistence and self-belief that early years educators and therapists identify as some of the most transferable outcomes of active outdoor play

Ideal for

  • Early years childcare centres and outdoor classrooms building gross motor and active play zones
  • Occupational therapists equipping paediatric therapy gardens or indoor therapy rooms with structured climbing equipment
  • Montessori, Reggio-inspired, and nature-based programmes supporting physical development outdoors
  • Schools seeking compact, versatile outdoor climbing equipment for toddler and preschool outdoor learning spaces
  • Families wanting a professional-grade, weather-resistant cedar climber for backyard or covered outdoor use
  • Any child between toddler and preschool age who is ready for a real, achievable climbing challenge
