The Experia LED Fibre Optic Softie is a fibre optic sensory beanbag available across North America, in two models: Calming and Superactive. It is a single product that is simultaneously a beanbag seat and a fibre optic sensory experience: the user sits inside the 36"L x 36"W x 55"H beanbag and 150 strands of 2-metre colour-changing fibre optic sideglow are right there β in the lap, in the hands, at arm's reach, immediately available to hold, touch, and watch from the most comfortable, supported seated position.
Every other fibre optic product in this range requires the user to approach a wall-mounted installation, reach toward a hanging cascade, or lie next to a portable bundle. The Softie wraps the fibre optic experience around the user from below β the seating and the sensory input are the same object. For anyone who benefits from a seated, enveloped sensory environment β a calm-down chair with fibre optics built in β the Softie is the only Experia product that provides this.
The 150-strand 2-metre fibre optic sideglow cascades around and across whoever is sitting in the beanbag. Strands can be held in the hands, draped across the lap, or simply allowed to rest around the user. The experience is described by Experia as creating "a sense of peace, wellbeing, and yet attentiveness" β calm and alert simultaneously, which is the sensory regulation state that underpins purposeful engagement.
The Calming model cycles through colours automatically with no controller required. The Superactive model includes the wireless Qi-charging 8-button controller, with the Maze Controller available as an add-on. The IRiS model is available as a separate product for full Experia IRiS Talker compatibility.
Low voltage via included transformer. Standard 110v outlet. Adult supervision required. Made in the USA.
Key Features of the Experia LED Fibre Optic Softie
- Beanbag Seat and 150-Strand Fibre Optic Sideglow - One Integrated Unit - The Softie combines a 36"L x 36"W x 55"H beanbag seat with a 150-strand x 2m fibre optic sideglow in a single product; the user sits in the seat and the fibre optic strands are immediately around them, available to hold, touch, and watch without reaching toward any wall-mounted equipment.
- Sit, Hold, Touch, and Feel - Full-Body Fibre Optic Contact From a Supported Seated Position - The strands can be held in both hands, draped across the lap, or simply allowed to rest around the user; the beanbag's enveloping shape means the fibre optic contact is close, comfortable, and fully supported.
- Calming Model - Auto Colour-Cycling, No Controller Required - The Calming Softie cycles slowly through a continuous colour spectrum from the moment it is plugged in; no controller, no configuration, no user action required. Suitable for passive relaxation, sensory regulation, and de-escalation environments.
- Superactive Model - Wireless Qi-Charging 8-Button Controller, Maze Controller Add-On - The Superactive model includes the wireless 8-colour Qi-charging controller for user-directed colour changes from up to 90 feet away, with the Maze Controller available as an add-on for tilt-activated gross motor colour interaction.
- IRiS Model Available Separately - The Softie is also available in a fully IRiS-compatible version for buyers who want wireless control via any Experia IRiS Talker alongside other IRiS equipment.
- Visual and Tactile Sensory Experience - Calm, Relax, or Stimulate - The combination of gentle fibre optic colour change and close tactile contact with the strands creates both a calming and a stimulating sensory environment depending on the colour and pacing; the Softie supports both directions.
- Includes Softie Beanbag, Light Source, 150-Strand x 2m Fibre Optic Sideglow, and Transformer - Everything required is in the box: the beanbag, the LED light source, the fibre optic sideglow, and the low voltage transformer.
- Made in the USA - Manufactured by Experia USA.
Skills and Benefits of the Experia LED Fibre Optic Softie
- Tactile Exploration and Discrimination - Holding, running through the hands, and feeling 150 fibre optic strands provides a distinctive, soft, illuminated tactile texture that supports tactile exploration, sensory curiosity, and gradual desensitisation for individuals with tactile hypersensitivity.
- Visual Tracking and Attention - Watching the colour of 150 strands shift and change across a 2-metre length, from a comfortable seated position and at close range, develops sustained visual attention in a relaxed, low-demand context.
- Cause and Effect - With the Superactive model, pressing a controller button and watching all 150 strands change colour simultaneously creates a vivid, immediate cause-and-effect experience with no physical distance between the user and the response.
- Colour Recognition - The close-proximity colour changes across the fibre optic strands provide a highly accessible and personally immediate context for colour identification and naming.
- Sensory Regulation and De-Escalation - Sitting in the enveloping beanbag with fibre optics in the lap combines proprioceptive input (the beanbag's firm, surrounding support), tactile input (the strands), and visual calming input (the colour cycles) β addressing multiple sensory channels simultaneously in a single, easily accessed seat.
- Peace and Attentiveness - Experia's own description of the Softie is that it creates "a sense of peace, wellbeing and yet attentiveness" β the calm alert state that supports purposeful engagement in therapy, learning, and daily activity.
