The Tumbl Trak Air Platform Mat - formerly known as the Air Pit - is one of the most adaptable pieces of inflatable equipment available for gymnastics facilities, occupational therapy clinics, sensory play spaces, and schools across North America. It inflates in approximately 1-2 minutes using the included electric pump, stands 24 inches high when fully inflated, and then does something no standard foam mat can: it flips over to become a completely different piece of equipment.
Vinyl-side up gives you a large, stable, cushioned platform - the equivalent of three stacked 8-inch mats - that works as a vault table station, resi-mat base, beam dismount landing, wall station, or downhill incline. Flip it hole-side up and the two large cavities become a posturing support for therapy work, a core-strengthening drill station, a ball pit base, an obstacle course element, or a freeform sensory play environment. Two orientations, one piece of equipment, and the flexibility to change its function in seconds.
Why Gyms, Therapy Clinics & Schools Choose the Tumbl Trak Air Platform Mat
- Replaces multiple pieces of fixed equipment - at 24 inches high and 5 x 10 feet in footprint, the Air Platform Mat replaces the equivalent of three 8-inch foam mats in a single lightweight, portable unit
- Includes an electric pump - inflates to full working pressure in approximately 1-2 minutes; no separate pump purchase required
- Lightweight and easy to reposition - significantly lighter than comparable foam platform equipment, making it practical for mobile demonstrations and reconfigurable gym or therapy setups
- Velcro-ready top surface - the 2-inch loop Velcro perimeter on the top side allows Tumbl Trak training aids, carpet overlays, and teaching accessories to attach securely during drills
- Non-slip perimeter base - 4-inch non-skid material around the perimeter of the bottom side prevents shifting on hard floors during active use
- Precision measurement guide - a 4-inch-wide centerline with numbered measurements allows coaches and therapists to set consistent distances for skill training and therapeutic positioning
- CPSIA compliant - all materials meet US consumer product safety requirements
- Made in the USA - designed and manufactured by Tumbl Trak to professional gymnastics and therapy standards
Key Features of the Tumbl Trak Air Platform Mat
- Dual-Sided Reversible Design - Flips between vinyl-side up (flat platform) and hole-side up (two open cavities) to serve completely different functions without any additional equipment, adapting instantly to the needs of a gym, OT clinic, or sensory play space
- Bottom Surface - 28 oz. Knife-Coated Supported Vinyl with 4-Inch Non-Skid Perimeter - Heavy-duty 28 oz. vinyl construction on the bottom with a 4-inch non-skid border that prevents the mat from shifting on hard or carpeted floors during high-impact or active therapeutic use
- Top Surface - 31 oz. Knife-Coated Supported Vinyl with 2-Inch Loop Velcro Perimeter - Premium 31 oz. vinyl on the working top surface with a 2-inch loop Velcro border around the perimeter, allowing Tumbl Trak teaching aids, carpet overlays, and training accessories to attach securely
- 4-Inch Centerline with Numbered Measurements - A precision measurement guide runs down the length of the top surface, enabling coaches to set exact skill entry distances and allowing therapists to track and replicate positioning for consistent therapeutic outcomes
- Electric Pump Included - An electric pump is included with purchase, inflating the mat to full pressure in approximately 1-2 minutes - no additional accessories needed before first use
- CPSIA-Compliant Materials - All materials meet CPSIA (Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act) standards, satisfying the purchasing requirements of schools, clinics, and institutional procurement teams
- Made in the USA - Designed and manufactured in the United States by Tumbl Trak to the standards of professional gymnastics, cheer, and therapeutic settings
Vinyl-Side-Up Applications
Rolling out the mat vinyl-side up creates a firm, elevated platform suitable for:
- Resi-mat base (place additional foam mats on top for a soft landing surface)
- Vault table station for gymnastics and cheer training
- Downhill incline station, functioning similarly to a cheese wedge
- Wall station and beam dismount setup
- General elevated training surface
Note: the vinyl on this side is not inflated. For landing activities, a practice mat placed on top is recommended.
Hole-Side-Up Applications
Flipping the mat to expose the two open cavities creates a different environment suited for:
- Postural support and positioning for therapeutic work
- Core-strengthening drills requiring supported upright posture
- Ball pit base for sensory and play environments
- Obstacle course element for children to navigate, step over, or explore
- Freeform sensory play, gross motor circuits, and energetic movement activities
The Sensory & Therapeutic Context
Occupational therapists use inflatable platform mats for gravitational security work - the firm but forgiving surface helps children who experience gravitational insecurity to challenge their postural control and vestibular system from a safe, supported position. The height of the platform (equivalent to three 8-inch mats) changes the movement challenge without requiring fixed installation, making it a genuinely practical option for travelling therapists, outpatient clinics, and schools that share therapy space. The hole-side-up configuration adds a proprioceptive dimension through gentle resistance against the cavity edges, supporting children who benefit from structured physical boundaries during therapeutic movement activities.
Ideal for
- Gymnastics clubs, cheer programmes, and competitive training facilities at all levels
- Occupational therapy clinics building portable, reconfigurable therapy spaces
- Schools and inclusive childcare centres building sensory movement circuits
- Travelling occupational therapists and paediatric physiotherapists
- Sensory room environments combining movement equipment with therapeutic positioning tools
- Children of all abilities - the dual-sided design serves neurotypical and neurodiverse users in different configurations without any adaptation required
