The Experia Fibre Optic Sensory Corner Shower is a floor-to-ceiling fibre optic curtain installation designed to fit into the corner of any sensory room, available across North America. Stand inside it, sit inside it, or position a wheelchair or standing frame inside it — and be surrounded on two sides by colour-changing LED fibre optic strands that cascade from ceiling to floor. The acrylic mirror mounted on the underside creates the illusion that the fibre optic strands extend upward into the ceiling indefinitely, producing an infinity effect that makes the space feel larger and more immersive than its corner footprint suggests.
The corner design is practically significant: it fits into a corner that would otherwise be unused, taking up minimal floor space compared to a circular or freestanding fibre optic shower. For sensory rooms where floor space is already occupied by a bubble tube, platform, vibroacoustic equipment, or other installations, the corner format is often the deciding factor. The unit is big enough to accommodate a wheelchair or standing frame — a meaningful accessibility specification that makes it appropriate for users who cannot stand independently.
Minimum ceiling height of 8 feet is required. There is no electricity in the fibre optics — only light travels through the strands — meaning the product is completely safe to touch and explore by all users, including those who cannot regulate their sensory engagement. The LED light source means colours never fade and there are no lamps to replace.
The Calming model cycles automatically through colours with no controller required. The Superactive model includes the wireless 8-button controller (90ft range), with the Maze Controller available as an add-on. The IRiS model — compatible with all Experia IRiS Talkers — is available as a separate product.
The Corner Shower can be combined with a bubble tube corner installation to create an Experia Sensory Cocoon — the corner shower surrounds the user with fibre optics while the bubble tube provides the visual centrepiece and the vibroacoustic input, creating a complete immersive sensory environment in the corner of the room.
Key Features of the Experia Fibre Optic Sensory Corner Shower
- Corner Installation - Space-Efficient for Any Sensory Room - The unit fits into a corner, installing into a space that would otherwise be unused; its corner footprint makes it the practical fibre optic shower option for sensory rooms where floor and wall space is already occupied.
- Wheelchair and Standing Frame Accessible - The corner shower is large enough to accommodate a wheelchair or standing frame inside the curtain, making it suitable for users who cannot stand independently and for settings where full accessibility of sensory equipment is a requirement.
- Acrylic Mirror Ceiling - Infinity Effect Extending Upward - A safe acrylic mirror mounted on the underside of the shower unit creates the visual impression that the fibre optic strands extend upward into the ceiling — an infinity effect that substantially enhances the immersive quality of the experience.
- No Electricity in the Fibre Optics - Completely Safe to Touch - Only light travels through the fibre optic strands; there is no electrical current in the fibres themselves, meaning users can touch, handle, and explore the strands completely safely regardless of their ability to self-regulate contact with the equipment.
- Two Models - Calming (Auto Colour-Cycling) and Superactive (Wireless Controller) - The Calming model cycles through colours automatically from the moment it is plugged in, with no controller required. The Superactive model includes the wireless 8-button controller (90ft range), with the Maze Controller available as an add-on. The IRiS Model is available separately.
- LED Technology - Colours Never Fade, No Lamp Replacement - LED light source means the vivid colour output is consistent and maintenance-free over the life of the product; no lamp changes are needed.
- Combines with Bubble Tube Corner to Create a Sensory Cocoon - The Corner Shower is designed to work alongside a bubble tube corner installation — the shower provides the surrounding fibre optic curtain while the bubble tube provides the visual centrepiece, together creating a fully immersive Sensory Cocoon in the corner of the room.
- 8ft Minimum Ceiling Height Required - The unit requires a floor-to-ceiling clearance of at least 8 feet for installation.
- Made in the USA - Manufactured by Experia USA.
Skills Developed Through the Experia Fibre Optic Sensory Corner Shower
- Tactile Exploration and Discrimination - The fibre optic strands are completely safe to touch; running hands through the curtain of strands provides a distinctive tactile texture that supports tactile exploration, discrimination, and desensitisation for individuals with tactile sensitivities.
- Visual Tracking and Attention - Following the shifting colour changes across a floor-to-ceiling curtain of fibre optics, and observing the infinity effect created by the acrylic mirror above, develops sustained visual attention in a deeply immersive, whole-body sensory context.
- Cause and Effect - With the Superactive model, using the wireless controller to change the colour of the surrounding fibre optic curtain creates a direct cause-and-effect connection between the user's action and their entire visual environment changing around them.
- Colour Recognition - The shifting colour display across the full curtain, amplified by the acrylic mirror ceiling reflection, provides a rich, high-contrast context for colour identification and naming.
- De-escalation and Sensory Regulation - The enclosed, surrounding nature of the corner shower — fibre optics on two sides, acrylic mirror above — creates one of the most immersive passive regulation environments in any sensory room; the Calming model's slow colour cycling is particularly effective for de-escalation and self-regulation support.
- Reminiscence and Social Interaction - The visually distinctive environment created by the corner shower provides a natural context for reminiscence activities in dementia care settings, and for shared engagement, pointing, colour naming, and conversation in group or paired sessions.
