Experia LED Fibre Optic Wall Cascade for De-Escalation, Dementia Care & Sensory Rooms Across North America.

Description

The Experia LED Fibre Optic Wall Cascade is a wall-mounted or doorway-mounted fibre optic curtain installation available across North America, in two models: Calming and Superactive. The enclosure box (8"H x 30.25"W x 8.5"D) houses the LED light source and mounts to the wall or above a doorway; 150 fibre optic strands cascade 78 inches downward from the base of the box, hanging free like a curtain of colour-changing light.

The swiveling wall-mounted bracket is the product's single most practical differentiator: it allows the cascade to be pivoted out from the wall, bringing the 78-inch curtain of strands into the space in front of it. A wheelchair user or someone using a standing frame can be positioned beneath the swiveled cascade, with the strands falling around and over them from above. The same bracket that makes this a wheelchair-accessible product also makes it accessible over a doorway — mount the enclosure above a door frame and the cascade falls across the doorway opening, creating a sensory entrance that users walk through.

The fibre optic strands are completely safe to touch and hold — only light travels through them, with no electrical current in any strand. Weighing 32 lbs and spanning 30.25 inches wide, the unit is among the most portable and versatile wall-mounted fibre optic products in the Experia range.

The Calming model slowly cycles through colours automatically, with no controller required. The description from Experia confirms it is "particularly useful for calming and re-orienting" and beneficial for individuals with dementia or children who are becoming overwhelmed. The Superactive model includes the 8-colour wireless controller, with the Maze Controller available as an add-on.

Professional installation by a competent professional or handyman is recommended. Low voltage via included transformer. Standard 110v outlet. Ages 3+. Adult supervision required. Made in the USA.

Key Features of the Experia LED Fibre Optic Wall Cascade

  • 78" of Cascading Fibre Optic Strands - 150 Strands From a 30" Wide Enclosure - The 150 fibre optic strands cascade 78 inches (2.5m) downward from the base of the enclosure box, creating a full, dense curtain of colour-changing light that can be reached into, parted, and explored from the front.
  • Swiveling Wall-Mounted Bracket - Pivots Out From the Wall - The mounting bracket allows the entire cascade to be pivoted away from the wall, bringing the curtain of strands into the room space and making it accessible from all sides — the key feature that makes this product appropriate for wheelchair users, standing frame users, and doorway installations.
  • Wall or Doorway Installation - Two Mounting Options - The enclosure can be mounted on a wall surface or above a doorway frame, allowing the cascade to hang from a wall or fall across a doorway opening. Doorway mounting creates a sensory entrance that users walk or wheel through.
  • Wheelchair and Standing Frame Accessible - The swiveling bracket brings the cascade into the room; a wheelchair or standing frame can be positioned beneath the pivoted unit so the strands fall around and over the user from above — making the full fibre optic experience accessible without requiring the user to stand or reach.
  • Safe to Touch and Hold - No Electricity in the Strands - Only light travels through the fibre optic strands; there is no electrical current in any part of the cascade. Users can touch, hold, part, and explore the strands completely safely. The LED light source unit in the enclosure should be kept out of reach.
  • Calming Model - Auto Colour-Cycling for De-Escalation, Relaxation & Dementia Care - The Calming cascade slowly cycles through colours without any controller, making it ideal for de-escalation, passive relaxation, and environments where a predictable, continuously shifting colour is therapeutically appropriate — including dementia care and children's regulation spaces.
  • Superactive Model - 8-Colour Wireless Controller, Maze Controller Add-On - The Superactive cascade includes the 8-colour wireless controller for user-directed colour changes, with the Maze Controller available as an add-on for tilt-activated gross motor interaction.
  • Also available in the advanced and wirelessly controlled IRiS Model
  • Lightweight and Portable - 32 lbs - At 32 lbs, the cascade is one of the lightest wall-mounted fibre optic products in the Experia range; its modest weight makes professional installation straightforward and relocation practical between spaces.
  • Made in the USA - Manufactured by Experia USA. Professional installation recommended.

Skills Developed Through the Experia LED Fibre Optic Wall Cascade

  • Tactile Exploration and Discrimination - Reaching into, parting, and holding the cascading fibre optic strands provides a distinctive tactile experience — lightweight, slightly flexible, and illuminated — that supports tactile exploration, texture awareness, and gradual desensitisation for individuals with tactile hypersensitivity.
  • Visual Tracking and Attention - Following the colour shifts through 78 inches of cascading strands, and observing the way colours change across the full curtain, develops sustained visual attention and tracking in a deeply immersive tactile-visual context.
  • Cause and Effect - With the Superactive model, selecting a colour via the wireless controller and watching the entire 78-inch curtain shift creates a satisfying cause-and-effect connection; using the Maze Controller adds a tilt-based gross motor dimension to the same interaction.
  • Gross Motor and Reach - Reaching into and across the 78-inch cascade, parting the strands with both arms, or operating the Maze Controller develops arm extension, bilateral reach, and upper body coordination.
  • De-escalation and Sensory Regulation - The Calming model's slow, predictable colour cycling through hanging strands that respond to touch creates one of the most soothing passive sensory environments in the Experia range; the combination of gentle tactile contact and continuous colour shift supports de-escalation and self-regulation.
  • Reminiscence and Engagement in Dementia Care - The Calming cascade is specifically noted for its benefit to individuals with dementia; the soft, touchable, colour-changing curtain creates a gentle sensory engagement context that does not require active participation or communication.

Ideal for

  • Sensory rooms and multi-sensory environments adding a cascading, safe-to-touch fibre optic curtain installation
  • OT clinics and therapy spaces where tactile exploration, de-escalation, and cause-and-effect interaction are therapeutic goals
  • Schools, resource rooms, and doorway installations where a sensory entrance or calm corner fibre optic feature is needed
  • Dementia care and residential facilities where the Calming cascade's gentle, predictable colour shift supports engagement and regulation
  • Wheelchair and standing frame users for whom the swiveling bracket makes the full fibre optic experience accessible
  • Children and adults of all abilities who benefit from a safe, touchable, colour-changing curtain of fibre optic strands

FAQ:

  • What is the difference between IRiS, Superactive, Calming?
    • IRiS: Take full control of your Sensory Room with Experia's revolutionary IRiS Wireless Sensory Products range. IRiS Products use the latest technology to allow any IRiS Talker to control any IRiS listener creating stimulating interactive multisensory environments for the user. Each controller has been specifically designed for special needs users to improve skills such as color recognition, gross and fine motor skills.
      • What is a Listener?: Experia products that light up and change colours, or create sound. This would include Bubble Tubes, Fibre Optics, Recordable Speakers, and more.  They are "Listeners" because they are listening for a signal from an Experia controller.
      • What is a Talker?:A Talker is Experia's word for a controller. Talkers/Controllers send signals to Listeners to change colours or make sounds. They are Talking to the Listeners. Talkers would include the Colour Selector, Qube, Balance Beam, and many more.
    • Superactive: The Superactive range of products allow the user a wonderful level of control over their environment. All Superactive products can be controlled with the standard 8 color wireless controller or the brand new wireless Maze Controller! The standard 8 color wireless controller is included with all our Superactive products unless otherwise specified. Adding both controllers allows for maximum Superactive feature usability for the best user experience.
    • Calming: The Calming range of products are designed to calm and relax individuals in certain settings. Simply plug them in and enjoy the lighting as each calming product slowly cycles through a rainbow of colours!
  • Will the Sensory Room packages fit in my room?
    • This depends not just on the room’s dimensions but on several factors like the layout of the room, location of windows and heating & cooling elements, and number & location of power outlets.
  • What skills do Experia products help develope?
    • Gross & Fine Motor
    • Auditory
    • Communicative
